Bowen for pain relief - not painkillers

June 30th 2008

Highly subtle, yet profound, Bowtech, the Original Bowen Technique is a non-invasive healing modality in which powerful results are achieved as the body finds, again, perhaps after years of pain and frustration, that it can retrieve the cellular memory of relaxation, balance, and wellbeing.   It is the leading drug free treatment for neck and back pain The Original Bowen Technique invariably results in the relief of many specific injuries and other health problems, both acute and chronic.   Signals are delivered to the nervous system at specific locations (on muscles, tendons, ligaments, or nerves), and there are frequent but very essential pauses to allow the body time to respond and begin the healing process.  The technique addresses not only the musculoskeletal framework, but also the fascia, nerves and internal organs.

Can the Bowen technique help me?

Most people eventually discover Bowen after trying other healing methods with limited success, especially regarding pain issues.   Although Bowen is widely used for physical pain relief, countless other benefits are known.   Bowen regularly addresses degenerative problems, as well as mental, emotional, hormonal and energetic difficulties.   Below are only some of the conditions for which Bowen is used. More details of what it helps are available in the relevant page on the left.

Asthma
Scoliosis
Relieves Pain
Frozen Shoulder

Where did the Bowen Technique originate?

ImageThomas Bowen (1916 - 1982) The initiator of the Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique was developed in the 1950’s by the late Tom Bowen from Geelong, Australia. Bowen became a celebrated therapist, regularly treating over 13,000 patients a year. In 1974, he invited Oswald Rentsch and his wife Elaine to study with him and document his procedures. Honouring their promise to Bowen, they began to teach the technique in 1986 a few years after he died.

Instruction and training has only been done outside Australia since 1986, with over 20,000 therapists worldwide having undertaken Bowen training. Bowtech is Ossie and Elaine’s testament to Tom Bowen who trusted them to keep the technique pure and unadulterated. And, now, into their 70’s, they are still traveling thousands of miles each year to spread the word about Bowen.

All Bowen therapists registered at the Bowen Association UK adhere to a strict code of professional ethics, are covered with indemnity insurance, have a current first-aid certificate, have completed training in anatomy and physiology and undertake on-going post-graduate training each year.
