When you have Bowen Therapy you follow a tried, tested and proven formula so you can be sure you are getting the very best, effective treatment possible.
First of all let me congratulate you on stepping out of the box and choosing to look at the Bowen protocol.
Once people decide to come they’ll phone me and find out where I stay (just off Glasgow Road in Uddingston) so it’s not usually difficult to find the address.
So let’s begin -
Here’s what’s involved:
Step 1
For the ladies I’ll advise you to change into flat shoes when coming. As you come into the house I’ll watch how you stand and walk and note mentally any restrictions I see. Depending on the problem that’s being addressed I might ask to see the radius of movement of each arm and/or check your pelvic alignment. It’s warm and relaxing in this room and you sit down at the side of the fire and I’ll ask you if you’re on any medication, if you suffer from any allergies, or been involved in any work or sports related accidents which might have something to do with your current problem, and I’ll listen to what’s being said. I’ll then spend a few minutes explaining a bit about Bowen to you and what you might experience on the treatment table. As I leave the room I’ll ask you to take off your outer clothes and lie on the therapy table covering yourself with towels so that only the bit I’m working on is exposed. Then the treatment begins starting with basic relaxation moves at your lower back and, depending on the problem, either I work down on to the legs or work from the upper back up to the neck and shoulders with the moves that are most appropriate. I then ask you to turn on to your back and do the Bowen moves that best balance you. Although it doesn’t look as if a lot happens the gentle pressure sends signals through the proprioceptors (the nerve endings within the muscles) to the brain telling the body to reset itself to its original pain-free blueprint.
Step 2
After I’ve done everything you’ll be so relaxed on the table that I’ll let you rest on your back for ten minutes.
Step 3
I’ll then bring in a glass of water for you and explain what you’ve to do during the week ahead. More often than not I will only need to see you twice unless you re-injure yourself but even then people respond without a lot of treatment which is always a plus.
Some more questions?
How long does it take?
A first session will probably take about an hour and a quarter to an hour and three quarters.
Is it painful?
No. You may feel tingling or heat anywhere in the body or specifically in the area of the problem.
What clothes should I wear?
Flat shoes, loose clothing (like a t-shirt), and light trousers, would be better if you don’t want to take off your outer clothes but, generally, people are happy for me to work on them with outer clothes off as they are covered with towels anyway and only the area I’m working on is clear to allow me to make the moves.
How do I prepare for the treatment?
Drinking two glasses of spring water with an hour’s space between them would be beneficial. Also, if you leave your mobile in the car you won’t be distracted.
What if I’m taking other alternative treatment?
Allow 4 days after any other treatment before you have Bowen to allow the other treatment to take effect and to enable me a clear view of the condition.
Can I drive after treatment?
If you drove to me then there will be no reason you can’t drive afterwards.
