What about Sports Bowen?
Athletes over the world are being treated successfully using the Bowen technique both during and after sport. It plays a vital role in rehabilitation, accelerating the recovery time from overuse of muscles and injuries.
As a prevention method regular Bowen Therapy sessions can assist athletes in balancing the body’s systems, increasing oxygen flow and flexibility and stamina. Athletes have found improvements in mental clarity and concentration that assist them keeping a positive attitude and a stronger drive to succeed.
Four days before treatment:
Avoid any massage or other kind of bodywork, chiropractic, acupuncture, physiotherapy, and dental drilling.
On day of treatment before the session:
For the ladies please wear flat shoes and avoid perfume or body lotion. And for the men please don’t use aftershave or body lotion.
Try and drink at least 2 glasses of bottled spring water an hour before coming.
Leave all distractions at home or in car i.e. mobile telephones.
After treatment until 24 hours later:
Refrain from sitting for longer than 30 minutes at one time. Walking around keeps the body from locking in one position and begins the body’s innate ability to heal itself. If you are driving a long distance - stop the car every half hour and walk around it a few times Do not have a bath or a shower before going to bed but just wash yourself down. I’ll explain the reason for this if you want to know.
You may lie down flat and rest/nap without having to get up and walk. Your body will begin to reset itself as you rest flat out or as you walk.
Avoid strenuous exercise – for the first week walking, not sauntering, is very good.
Drinking at least a glass of water every hour until early evening is advisable to assist the body in removing toxins and waste from the body.
During the following week:
No massages, chiropractic, acupuncture, physiotherapy, dental drilling, saunas, heating pads, or ice packs.
Homeopathic medicines and flower essences are welcome.
Keep on drinking a glass of water every hour till early evening – you don’t want to be up during the night – this let your body continue detoxifying.
Don’t overwork yourself. You may feel energetic a few days after the treatment, but remember your body needs rest.
